Located near the tip of the narrow Gale's Point penninsula, it's as if you're surrounded by water. You can pitch a tent or stay in rustic lodging with a shared latrine and shower facility. Camping is $10 Bz (US $5) and lodging in the guesthouse is $50 Bz (US $25) per night.
Additional lodging available nearby includes Gentle's Cool Spot (Bz $23 per room per night, $45 for the guesthouse), Ms. Ionies Rooms ($23), the Village Cooperative ($55), Bed and Breakfast to stay with local families (contact Ms. Ionie), and the three star Manatee Lodge, very near the Drum School.
Besides learning to make and play drums, you will have a chance to enjoy
the natural beauty and abundant wildlife of the area.
The beautiful lagoon, with its large population of manatees,
is a wonderful place to go canoeing or sailing. Boat tours are available to
visit nearby caves, to go out to the beach, or go snorkeling for the day at
Belize's famous barrier reef.
There are beautiful rivers nearby, with deep swimming holes and crystal clear water. Hiking in the nearby rainforest with an experienced guide, you may be able to see tapirs, peccaries, deer, monkeys, or even the exclusive jaguar. A variety of water birds, including the jibaru stork and the ibis, will delight avid bird watchers...
In our "Sugar Shack" you'll find such crafts as drums, bamboo furniture, and baskets and cultural workshops. We have real expresso and mocca shakes as well as frozen fresh fruit shakes and smoothies.
